Wild mushrooms have a wide range of flavor and each variety has a deep, delicate unique taste.

If you haven't tried wild mushrooms, I would recommend it even if you have to buy the dried wild mushrooms at your local market.  In our area there are many edible spring and fall mushrooms to hunt and harvest.

Whenever it has not been raining, Retired Mountain Man has been hunting for these little jewels.

He has found enough of them so that I can make a Wild Mushroom Orzo for the potluck tonight.

Yesterday he found a nice cluster of Coral Mushrooms.  The deer had eaten a lot of them but were kind enough to leave some for us.  These are ready for the dehydrator.

Fried Coral Mushrooms

These were dipped in Eggbeaters (to convince myself I am cutting down on the cholesterol), lightly coated with flour, and fried in butter.  Yes, they taste really good!

FISH ON!

FISH ON!

Those were the words we were hoping to hear back in our Seagull Charter fishing days.  We used to fish during the week of the K & K Derby which was always the first week in May.  Every year we would book Seagull Charters for opening day.

We enjoyed it so much that we also booked a day of fishing every fall.  Over the years there were a lot of friends and family that joined us for the day.

Griz Eileen almost always went with us.

Here she is posing for the camera.

Ah ha!  She's actually fishing here.

JP and his fish.  It's on the wall in his living room.

The Seagull was a very nice charter boat with a heater and a nice cabin to keep you warm on the cold mornings.  It could accommodate six people (and all of their food and beverages) very comfortably.

David R. and JP, who both caught big fish that day.

Sometimes the fish were not biting.  There was a lot of extra time to do other things such as work the daily crossword puzzle.

Although we no longer fish during the derby and Captain Jim has retired, the Seagull is still out there fishing on Lake Pend Oreille.

There are new additions on the mountain.

I have two new raised beds for my garden thanks to Travis.  The lumber for the raised beds came from trees that grew just down the road from us on Alan's property.  Travis cut them down and hauled them to his mill and then he and Alan sawed them into 2x6's.  They are beautiful boards and they now make up my two raised beds.

It only took these two carpenters about an hour to put the first one together.  Beautiful!

Ta Da!

With any luck they will be filled with plants soon.  Please turn off the rain.

What! No grinding! No way!

I couldn't believe it.  My dishwasher healed itself!

The A-1 Man was here yesterday.  He and Retired Mountain Man tried every setting on the thing and it would not make the grinding noise!  The final decision was that when it makes the groan again (I am saying when not if, as I am a bit pessimistic about the future of my dishwasher), call the A-1 Man back.  In the meantime, I have started looking at new dishwashers trying to find one that operates quietly.  No groaning or grinding.

I can't be there until tomorrow morning around 8:30. Would that be OK with you?

Have you ever heard those words from an appliance repairman?

Yesterday, I turned on my dishwasher and it made the most horrible sound!  Trust me, it's a sound that no woman wants to hear.  My dishwasher is on it's deathbed!  NO!  No way!   I have only had it for fifteen years.  How could it possibly be on it's last dish washing legs?

Luckily for me, my appliance repairman lives about a mile up the road.  The A-1 Man.  When I called him, he said, "The earliest I can get there to look at it would be tomorrow morning around 8:30!"  I love that guy!
