Walking through a snowy woods.....

On our last walk we found that a moose had run through Retired Mountain Man's fence.  Why he had to do that we don't know as the gate was open right next to it......

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I've always loved Robert Frost's poem and even though there's no frozen lake near our woods, I thought I would post it.

More photos from the Griz's birthday bash!

As you can see, I had a lot of fun taking photos at my mom's birthday bash.  I did a little experimenting with changing some of them to black and white.

Aunt Shirley.  She is such a sweetheart!

I met Chris, a physical therapist (Retired Mountain Man would love her as his therapist)  See that twinkle in her eye?

Of course all the men were outside by the bonfire.

Meet Max.  Or maybe I should say, look out for MAX!  This three year old is FULL of energy!

Do I really have to stop playing to have my photo taken, Grandma?

This is the look you do NOT want to get when she is 16.

It's Erin's turn for birthday candles and cake!

She seems extremely happy to only have 29 on her cake.

Have you lived your life as well as Griz Eileen?

We helped Griz Eileen celebrate her 90th birthday!

Did we do it right?  (Does she look good or what?)

"Are there really 90 candles on my cake?", she asks as she starts counting the candles.

Let the lighting begin.  It would take four big guys to complete the task!

Which one of those candles was the year I was born?  What about Don's candle?  Kathy's candle?  Mitzi's candle?  And baby Roy?

Of course she would not make a smart remark about just how old I am.......

Whoa!  Is it getting warm in here?  Where's the fire extinguisher?

One puff.........And they are out!

Are you spending your time doing what you want to do with your life?

While I hope you have many days ahead of you, just as my mom does  -  you really only have this moment, so make it count.

It's gray here.

I know, I know, I haven't been on here for a few days.  I started taking my online music theory course, "School Without Walls", Dirk Price & Dick Grove Music Education.  The course that I am taking is on Modern Harmony and Eartraining.  All of which I need to help me improve on my keyboard and guitar.

This means that I am spending even more time working on my music, which is OK, because this time of the year there is not much to do around here.  Especially this year since we basically have no snow.  It has thawed down to a lot of ice in many places with some snow remaining in the open areas.  It's not suitable for snowshoes although I can go for a walk if I wear my yak tracs.  It's very unusual weather for January.

It is so gray here every day that it must be March.  April can't be that far off?

On a bright note, I have ordered my seeds.  Geraniums, pansies and of course, my Red Robin Tomato seed.  They should arrive next week and I will be getting them started under my lights.  Remember these from last year?

Jens stopped by last night to show us his first Bobcat.

Retired Mountain Man needed measurements and of course, we weighed it.   About 17 lbs.

Is it Spring yet?

Brrrr.  Cold this morning.  15 degrees.  This little bird was having lunch at Retired Mountain Man's feeder yesterday.

A little seed money and looking forward to the next party.....

.....which will be in August!  Meanwhile, like everyone else, I am putting away the Christmas decorations.  I am close to the end.

On New Year's Eve, JP gave me a glass with a tip in it.  I am going to save it for seed money for the Oyster Party.

It's a good thing that I have my pension.

Fast Food Drive-up for Moose

They are looking for my rhododendrons.

Maggie, the moose dog, found them bedded down behind the barn later.  She had no fear until they stood up.  Then she came running back to the house.  She was effective though.  My rhodies are still there.
