November, the introduction to winter.

It's cold.  Brrr baby it's cold outside. Well, it's actually better the last few days although I see we're in for some cold nights again at the end of the week.

Thankfully, we didn't get as much wind and snow as was predicted.  Here on the mountain we have about two inches of the light fuffly type. Miss Lady loves it.  She takes great delight in running around as fast as she can and rolling in it.  Yesterday afternoon the temperature was pretty decent and we got in a nice walk around the place.

Lady is already learning to play games with us.  The first game is "Find Your Toy". Jon hid one of her toys in her blanket on the floor.  She had to unbury it and then he hid it again.  After about three rounds of this she found the toy, played with it, and then proceeded to bury the toy in the blanket on her own.   She has a great time with this game, sometimes burying more than one toy.  Then it is a furious attempt to recover them.

Border Collies are not really retrievers, but she has learned to chase the ball and then return it without dropping the ball 3 feet away from us.  Good girl!

She still barks at her reflection in either the mirror or the windows.  She's pretty certain that there is another dog threatening her realm.

Retired Mountain Man and I managed to get the final chores done before the cold and snow hit.  The dahlias are divided and in their containers in the root cellar.  I pulled the last row of carrots and we took down the final portion of the deer fence.

The final task was getting our snow tires on the car for the winter.  This year we took our car to the Little Heisel Service Station and we are very pleased.  We had an appointment.  No 4 hour waiting around in Sandpoint while they change the tires.  Jens also solved the mystery of a very annoying rattle noise in the front end of my car which made my car sound like it was coming apart when driving on a gravel road.

We're making big plans for Thanksgiving as it looks like both JP and David's families are going to be here for Thanksgiving.  Plus we will get to see Dylan and great-grandson, Jason for the first time in almost two years.

Dylan will be traveling to Seattle next week for follow-up tests on his cancer treatment.  So far everything is going well and we're hoping for good results.  Plus, his hair is growing back!

I am beginning my grocery list for our Thanksgiving feast and I am very happy that I don't need to bake the pies as daughter-in-law Julie has volunteered.

Remember this pie?
