Watching this short clip of Fred Rogers accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award is a good way to begin your day.
These days I find myself searching for the positives and I don't mean positive for Covid 19. The positives are the young people Retired Mountain Man and I have watched grow up over the years to become the kind of people Mr. Rogers is talking about.
They have worked hard and studied hard in school to make a life for themselves. Some are still living here or nearby and others have moved on to far away places. Rest assured that wherever they are, they will be making a difference in their communities.
Nurses, doctors, pharmacists, artists, computer programmers, writers, teachers, scientists in many fields, biologists, chemists and so many in the medical profession. The people who are essential in our lives - that would be all of them. Electricians, plumbers, loggers, and don't forget the people who know how to fix things. We really need them.
The past few weeks we have been working towards putting the garden to bed and finishing the harvest.
It is a difficult time for everyone but we are lucky to live here. Retired Mountain Man and I stay home as much as possible. We wear our masks when we are out and about and we practice social distancing. It's what we can do to help. Since we are no longer front line workers, it's our contribution to get us all through the pandemic.
My Mother's Day begonia has blossomed all summer long and still going at it. The forecast for the "hard freeze" is this upcoming weekend. It will be sad to see it all end.
We have already voted and I checked and our ballots have been received by the County Clerk's office. We have voted for people to represent us who have the same qualities as the young people I have been talking about.
They are honest in their relationships. Honesty. They are respectful, polite and most of all, kind.
Kindness and Respect.
They go the extra mile and they are always thinking of others. Those who will not wear a mask and think their liberty has been taken away, should not be representing us. I want people representing me to always take into consideration how their actions will affect others.
After the windstorm our neighbor, Adam Mitton, who is a building contractor, checked our driveway and when he saw the huge tree that had fallen across it, he sawed it and moved it out of the way so that our driveway was clear. We also learned later that our friends, Glen and Will Rolofson, also stopped by to check our driveway to be sure it was open. Good people.
They go the extra mile. They finish what they start and they make sure it gets done properly. As in the firewood in the photos below. RMM couldn't saw or split our firewood this year. We hired a good guy, Bill, who did it for us. He has been here many days doing just that. His job became even bigger after the windstorm that knocked down a lot of big trees. He has cleaned them up to get ready to ship to the mill.
Their were some candidates who refused to debate their opponents. That action takes them off my list. One should not take things for granted.
Good people. They are everywhere and we all know who they are. I say that those who deserve to represent us in government must be the same. Know who you are voting for before you make your mark on the ballot.
Meanwhile, up near Palmer, Alaska, our cousins, Kay and her daughter Leslie, and her hubby, are harvesting shrimp and picking blueberries.
