Private Patch

Jon and I picked these today at our secret location.  I see a Huckleberry Cheesecake in my future.

Ready, set, go! It's almost party time!

We will be singing even more songs this year.

I've added ten new songs to the songbooks.  I wonder how many we can sing in one night?

Julie has been planning the games for the kids since the party ended last year.

Accordion Lady and Trombone Man or is it Mozarella Lady and Pizza Man?

On Saturday we were invited to Mark and Linda's for pizza and a jam session.   This is their new pizza oven.

The pizza man looks very serious in this photo.  He usually isn't that serious when he is playing the trombone.

We played some really hot tunes and tried a couple of new ones.  Bruce's friend, Dave, joined in with us on

several songs.  We played until it was too dark to read the words and music.

There are no slackers in the band when it comes to bringing food to a potluck.  We are all about the food

and the music.  The pizza toppings included homemade sausage, an assortment of wild mushrooms,

Wheyward Farm Goat cheese and just about anything else you could think of.  Appetizers were spring rolls

and dipping sauce.

We did not forget dessert.  There was a birthday cake for our banjo player who is stuck in Rhode Island of all

places.  There was also a Strawberry Cake made with Ann's strawberries and Julie topped it all off with a

Caramel Flan.

We have kidnapped the banjo's player's wife.  There is no ransom except that she must reside in Idaho year

round.   She now sings many of the songs for the band and we just can't spare her for wifely duties.

One sad note and happy note was our bass man, Bruce, showing us his special bass guitar.  A gift from the

wife of his best friend, Smokey, who lost his battle with cancer.  Smokey was a great bass player and he and

Bruce played together for many years.

The guitar is a Fender that was made in the 60's.  All I can say is that guitar had some great notes played on

it Saturday night.

How many pizzas did we eat?  At least a dozen?  Maybe fifteen?  Twenty?  A lot.  And...

รจ una deliziosa pizza. Mark and Linda, grazie!

The Red Bag

This is a Red Bag.  It's a very special bag that all Forest Service firefighters have packed and ready to go on a

fire whenever they get a call.  It has everything the firefighter thinks he might need while out on a fire.

They also have something called "line gear", but I'm just a grandma and I'm not exactly sure what that gear

includes.  Maybe a pulaski?  This Red Bag is not "geared up" as I don't have a photo of that. When it is

geared up, it is jammed pack full of stuff and also has many things attached to outside straps.

Firefighter Dylan woke up this morning thinking he had the next three days off.   Everything was quiet and calm

until 8:10 a.m. when he got a call from the Panhandle Hotshot Crew.  Was he available to go on a fire?  Could

he get to CDA by 10:00 a.m.?  Whoa!  Of Course!  A chance to go on a fire with the "shots".  He was out the

door in five minutes.

He is now headed for the Kennedy Fire near Plains, Montana.  It looks like the terrain is very steep and the

temps might be hot there today.  He will earn his money.

Big Guy and Little Guy

Dylan's little brother, Ben came to visit him this weekend.  They hadn't seen each other for a long time and Ben

loved getting to wrestle and play with Dylan.  He can even say, "Dillwan".  It's very cute.

His favorite thing to do.  Pile toys on Dylan.

Or, just climb on him, jump on him and generally just give him  Ben loves.

And, of course there is always the fountain.  Little kids and puppies love the fountain.
 This is Maggie's sister, Sophie.
Maggie is making sure Ben is doing this right. She is also protecting "her fountain".
I would like to show you a photo of the two puppies playing together, but there was no chance to get one.

If you can remember the Roadrunner, "Beep, Beep", and the streak, (maybe you aren't old enough to

remember)?  Do they still have Roadrunner cartoons?   Anyway, picture two puppies, locked together running

as fast as they possibly can for as long as they can keep it up.  On and on and on and on until

exhaustion sets in.  We just stayed out of their way.
